Steps for creating the wpa_supplicant.conf should default to (somewhat) safer storage for PSK

  1. create /data/wpa_supplicant.conf with contents
ctrl_interface=/run/wpa_supplicant
update_config=1
  1. create network credentials by invoking wpa_passphrase MyWiFiSSID "my-passphrase-goes-here" >>/data/wpa_supplicant.conf
